The History of Reiki
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that can also help promote healing. It was "founded" in 1922 by Mikao Usui and is based on the concept that an unseen "life force energy" flows through everyone. If one's life force energy is low or blocked, then we are more likely to get sick, feel pain/discomfort or dis-ease. Reiki works with the energy vortexes within our bodies, known as the Chakras, and brings this life-force energy back into balance, naturally.
Reiki treats the whole person - body, mind, spirit, emotions - to encourage deep relaxation and feelings of peace, security and well-being. Reiki only works with the purest intentions, for the greater good. It has an intelligence all it's own, and goes where ever healing and re-balancing needs to take place.
Reiki is a very spiritual practice, but it is not a religion. It doesn't matter what your religious background or belief system is, and you don't have to believe in Reiki for it to work.
Note: Reiki is a complimentary healing practice; it is not a substitute for traditional care by a licensed medical or mental health professional. Reiki practitioners do not diagnose conditions, nor prescribe medicines, nor interfere with the treatment of licensed medical or mental health professionals.
